📜 From Ghost Towns to "Streets of Tomorrow": History & Highlights

South Land Park sits on layers of fascinating Sacramento history. Long before it became the pinnacle of post-war suburban luxury, the northern boundary along Sutterville Road was home to Sutterville—founded in 1846 by John Sutter himself as a rival city to Sacramento. Sacramento ultimately won that battle, leaving Sutterville to become a historic footnote. During the Civil War, the area hosted Camp Union, a major training ground for Union soldiers.
Fast forward to the 1950s, and the neighborhood became a testing ground for master-planned innovation. Developers built South Land Park Hills with custom ranch homes, and the neighborhood proudly debuted the "Streets of Tomorrow" design—introducing winding roads and cul-de-sacs specifically engineered to slow down traffic and keep kids safe.
Today, the community's crown jewel is the South Land Park Neighborhood Association (SLPNA), an incredibly active civic group that coordinates everything from community safety initiatives to beautiful neighborhood beautification projects.
